The irony is that new villages built around Ioannina after the exchange were inhabited by tourkophone Greeks, as, for instance, are Bafra (from city with the same name in the Black Sea area) and Neokesaria (New Cesaria from Kaiserli, Cappadokia). They still speak Turkish in the old form, Osmanlica, not the youngsters anymore, but men in my age still can speak Turkish, as a colleague of mine told me, who is from Bafra. Once I was going by bus there and all people in it were speaking Turkish.

Mübadele sonrasında Yanya civarında inşa edilen, meselâ Bafra (Karadeniz Bölgesi’ndeki aynı adlı şehirden geliyor) ve Neokesaria (Kayseri, Kapadokya) gibi yeni köylerde, Türkçe konuşan Yunanlar iskân edildiler. Bafralı bir arkadaşımın bana söylediğine göre, gençler değilse de, benim yaşımdaki insanlar Osmanlıca denilen eski Türkçeyi konuşuyorlar. Bir zamanlar, bütün halkın Türkçe konuştuğu o yere otobüsle giderdim.
